Perfect Sky, the newest single from Pino Farina Band, shines a spotlight on vocalist Pino Farina and a solemn piano. Only the barest of accompaniment from bandmates Johnathan Schiller (percussion, vocals), John Cwiok (bass) and Michael Poupko (producing, mixing, engineering, guitar, vocals) add an aesthetic whisper of cymbal rolls and a steely slide guitar to the arrangement. A love song at its core that seems to travel the same intimate journey as Coldplay's The Scientist, Farina's focused and slow-burning lyrics summon a longing ache that is palpable.

 

Originally composed as a fast-paced rock song, the band experimented with exploring a raw stripped-down version where Pino's distinctive voice was the lone source of light. They tried it out on a few stages, and the feedback was overwhelming. People remembered it. People were moved by it. People asked for it by name. Getting a studio version of Perfect Sky to replicate the connection formed on stage became the goal.

"We didn’t overwork it,” Pino Farina recalls. “With some of our other songs, the tendency is to layer instrumentation and sonic diversity in the tracks. But with Perfect Sky, which is more of an emotional purging in the throes of a relationship, we chose to keep it simple.”
