PINO FARINA BAND RELEASES MICROSUN

Pino Farina Band’s new single Microsun was born out of a need to find peace in a world gone mad. The constant barrage of a media cycle immersed in breaking news about the election period, endless wars around the globe, mass shootings, health scares, terrorism, and racism led singer/guitarist and lyricist Pino Farina on a search of a more tranquil existence. It started out as a hopeful letter to his wife.

“I imagined a place somewhere safe in the world,” said Pino. “A small town in the country, in a bubble of sorts where all troubles would evaporate, and we’d have our own personal tiny sun shining just for us.” A song was brewing.

Spinning off of the axis, I know it’s out of control
But it was already broken as it’ll be long after we’re gone
So we’re going to Crow’s Nest, population 101
Gonna build you a fortress under a microsun

Around the same time the lyrics were a mere sparkle in Pino’s mind, he and the band (Michael Poupko – guitar, John Cwiok – bass, Paul Knegten – drums) met for rehearsal which often morphed into a jam session. A catchy riff finds a rhythm, and it grows into a melody is how most of their songs come into being. A group effort. This time it was Poupko experimenting with his new effects pedal, coincidentally called a Microsynth, that led the charge. It can be heard in the intro and throughout the song.

Does such a place exist, living happily-ever-after, unscathed from all the chaos of the world? “Life is not like that for anybody, really,” lamented Pino Farina. “But we all can dream, right?”

The Pino Farina Band release show for Microsun will take place at Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights on October 21 and 22, 2022.
